Ng?i Tahu Forestry, a division of Ng?i Tahu Farming, manages 54,000 ha of land and plantation forests across the West Coast, Canterbury and Otago. As well as operational forestry (annual cut of ~300,000 tonnes), the division is also responsible for a seed nursery (Proseed) and third-party activities on Ng?i Tahu land such as alluvial gold mining.

Reporting to the Operations Manager - Forestry, we are a seeking to appoint a Forester to provide technical support to the General Manager - Forestry, the Commercial Manager - Forestry and all other Operational Managers.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with a wide range of people;
  • Self-motivated with the drive and resilience to manage projects and meet targets;
  • ETS experience would be advantageous;
  • Minimum 5 years’ technical forestry work experience;
  • Formal qualifications in Forestry Science or Forest Engineering;
  • A commitment to Ng?i Tahu Farming’s quadruple bottom line;
  • An awareness and understanding of Ng?i Tahu values and a willingness to learn tikanga and te reo M?ori.

Job Description:
We have an excellent opportunity available for an experienced Forestry Logistics Manager. If you have a passion for technology that you want to blend with hands on daily operational forestry management, this role will allow you advance your career within our small, yet dynamic Log Logistics team.

About the Company
Log Logistics is a third party dispatch provider for the Otago and Southland regions. The team coordinate and schedule over 50 logging trucks daily to uplift loads from forestry sites, focusing on best overall utilisation of the logging fleet, whilst dealing with and solving a myriad of daily operational challenges that may occur throughout the day

The team use specialist forestry logistics software to optimise controlling wood flow volumes from the forest to the customer, whilst also using the advanced software technology to report on production levels, inventory stocks, and delivery targets.

About the Position
This is a full-time permanent position based at the McNeill site in Kennington, Invercargill.

The role is hands on and involves planning, directing and overseeing all operations of Log Logistics, including site visits to our customers contracting teams, managing the Log Logistics staff, producing daily, weekly and monthly production and uplift reports, and ensuring the optimum performance between the trucking fleets and the harvesting operations taking place daily in the forests, is consistent and reliable. This means ensuring the dispatching of trucks on a daily basis matches or exceeds the volumes we are asked to uplift daily.

This position is a key leadership role reliant on very good daily communications with a number of parties, often under stressful circumstances.

About You
You will have well developed people and planning skills, and will have advanced computer systems knowledge. Technology plays a significant part in daily operations so a high level of competency in this area is critical. At its peak, this role is fast paced, dynamic, can change at very short notice, and requires an ability to keep very focussed under stress when required. Previous experience running dispatch operations would be seen as advantageous.
