The role will provide additional capacity to a small team managing a range of contractors harvesting private forest and woodlots. The role will involve planning and management of harvesting, roading and distribution operations, to maximise stumpage returns for our clients, forests and woodlots.

Key tasks within this role include:
Management of contractors to ensure all contract obligations are met, including monitoring and ensuring compliance with Health, Safety & Environmental policies and standards.
Management of operational harvest and cut plans with the objective of maximising cash flow and value back to the forest owner.
Liaison with clients to provide detail on harvest operations and day to day contact.
Work with management team on contractor scheduling and log sales planning

Preference will be given to applicants with the following attributes:
A Tertiary Forestry qualification;
Minimum 3 years’ experience in commercial forestry operations or management;
Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety, environmental management systems, forest economics;
Experience with managing contractors and compliance
Sound problem solving skills and attention to detail;
Competent computer user, with experience in mapping and spreadsheet programs;
Excellent organisational, time management, communication and people skills.

Log Marketing is an Invercargill-based business specialising in the procurement, marketing of forest woodlots and plantations within the Southland and Otago regions. We provide expertise and advice in forest establishment and management to ensure our clients optimise their returns from their forestry investments.
We have an excellent opportunity for someone who has experience in the overseeing and management of harvesting operations. Ideally we are looking for someone with relevant tertiary based qualifications for this role, however we would consider someone with proven industry experience and skill base.
This role will primarily involve the day to day supervision and overseeing of harvest crews to ensure quality control and environmental standards are adhered too, along with actively being involved in log procurement by dealing directly with forest owners and sourcing woodlots for our harvest crews.
Other duties include:
Harvest planning and supervision of logging crews.
Carrying out operational audits to ensure Health & Safety and Environmental compliance meets industry standards.
Assisting with forest inventory and harvest data collection.
Dealing with forest owners and customers in the process of procuring and marketing their woodlots.
The successful candidate will have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, as well as a proven ability to build effective working relationships and maintain clear communication. They will also have a high level of integrity, honesty and be self-motivated. They must have the ability to work independently and display a high level of communication skills. Experience in the use of Microsoft Office/Excel would also be advantageous.

Fibre and Forestry Manager Company/Location: Visy Tumut
Visy, a global leader in the packaging, paper and resource recovery industries, is looking for a Fibre and Forestry Manager for their Tumut Mill.
Reporting to the GM Pulp & Paper Tumut, the position will be wholly responsible for the management and delivery of 1.9 million metric tonnes per annum of wood fibre to the Tumut Mill. Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
1. Implement strategies that deliver the wood fibre required to operate the mill whilst also identifying opportunities to drive cost savings. 2. Manage all aspects of the Prime Materials budget and spend for the Tumut Pulp and Paper Mill. 3. Responsible for the management of wood fibre contracts, contractors and suppliers. 4. Oversee forest harvesting and haulage for stumpage operations. 5. Key responsibilities of the role include being the site contact for Forestry Certification and Chain of Responsibility.
1. 5+ years of proven Forestry Operations experience having been responsible for management of fibre supply, harvesting and haulage contracts. 2. Experience with management accounting and preparation of complex budgets, forecasts, cost reporting, contract reviews and regulatory compliance. 3. Proven experience in the delivery of results in line with business objectives. 4. Strong literacy, numeracy and presentation skills with highly advanced excel skills. 5. Experience with managing forestry certifications and the legislative requirements of Chain of Responsibility. 6. Stakeholder management skills with the ability to network across community, environmental and regulatory stakeholders. 7. Experience with contract management, business development and project costings.
