Harvest Supervisor

Company/Location: IFS Growth/Southland

Job Description:
IFS Growth is a successful and growing forestry management and investment business. We are looking for a Harvest Supervisor to manage the harvest planning, road construction and maintenance programmes across all forests. Supervision of the contracted harvest crews is also a key requirement of the role, so excellent communication skills are a must.

Reporting to the Regional Manager, you will be responsible for forests in the Southland and Otago areas.

Other key skills required:

  • Strong analytical ability
  • Proficient in the use of spreadsheets
  • Excellent organisational skills, in particular time management
  • Proven project management and planning experience
  • A team player, with ability to work with colleagues around the country
  • Works well under pressure.
You will ideally have at least 5 years professional forestry experience and a practical knowledge of health, safety and environmental management.

Climate Change Operations Analyst FMA

Job Description:
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a permanent Operations Analyst in our Operations team within the Spatial Forestry and Land Management Directorate. This role provides operational support for forestry Emission Trading Scheme applications, in particular the forestry Field Measurement Approach (FMA) as applied to Post-1989 Forestry Emissions Trading Scheme Participants and Permanent Forest Sink Initiative (PFSI) covenant holders.

Spatial, Forestry and Land Management is responsible for implementing policy initiatives to support sustainable land management, the use of our forestry resources and New Zealand’s climate change responsibilities. We cover the length of the country - from ancient Kauri forests in Northland to exotic forests in the back blocks of rural Southland.

Key responsibilities for the role include (but are not limited to):

  • Become a subject matter expert in all aspects of the FMA including issuing sample plots, data collection and submission, data analysis and quality control, and the production of participant specific look up tables. This also includes acquiring a detailed knowledge of the forestry sector regulations, the FMA Standard, the FMA Information Standard, and the FMA Guide; and the associated business processes, data validation rules, and software systems.
  • Contributing to the development and refinement of information/documentation describing FMA operation to ensure efficient and accurate data processing and improvement of business processes.
  • Undertaking data analysis and assist with the continuous improvement of the FMA approach, including implementation of any new carbon accounting approaches.
  • Liaising directly with forestry consultants, forest owners and inventory providers to resolve issues arising from enquiries and processing relating to data collection, submission and validation for the FMA.
  • Maintaining and enhancing professional relationships with FMA participants, consultants and the forestry sector
  • Providing support to MPl's regional Programmes Implementation Advisers and ETS Compliance Staff relating to those aspects of FMA administration and implementation that involve data collection, submission and validation though training and case support.
  • Providing second-tier (i.e. backup) support for enquiries, requests or data processing matters referred onwards from MPl's Contact Centre.
  • Providing operational and analytical support for broader ETS operational matters (as time permits)

Operations Analyst/ Senior Analyst

Job Description:
Contribute to analysis to support the delivery of the Spatial, Forestry and Land Management Directorate strategy and MPI’s management of land use and the forestry aspects of the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).

In this role you will contribute to the development, maintenance and review of implementation, programmes and operational policy with regard to forestry, climate change and land use.

  • Providing evidence-based analysis and advice to inform policy and operational decisions in relation to the forestry aspects of the Climate Change Response Act (CCRA).

  • Building and sustaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders in an enabling and partnering approach.
  • Providing advice on operational processes to ensure they are efficient and meet legislative/regulatory needs.
  • Facilitating cross agency coordination and providing subject matter expertise in relation to Spatial, Forestry and Land Management initiatives.
To be successful in this role you should have:
  • A very strong analytical ability with a capacity to quickly identify and clearly express core elements of an issue or proposal;
  • excellent communication skills to enable effective linkages with MPI staff, stakeholders and other agencies;
  • demonstrated ability to plan, develop and lead delivery of work programmes;
  • Successfully contribute to team objectives.

Kohntrol is a forest management company with over 30 years of managing forest on the East Coast of the North Island, which has a rapidly expanding harvesting base.
