Our Whangarei saw milling operation is comprised of green mill, kiln drying, planer mill production and some timber treatment processes. With a history of success and a proven track record manufacturing high quality wood products, our Whangarei team are looking to further increase operational performance in 2018.
We’re offering qualified Saw Doctors, who hold a minimum level 3 Trade Certificate in Saw Doctoring, and uphold the highest standards of health and safety, the opportunity to join our business in Whangarei permanently and grow your career with us.
Bring your enthusiasm and motivation to the position! Your strong work ethic and personal drive to meet targets are essential along with excellent communication skills. Experience with high strain band saws would be an advantage.
You’ll report to the Saw Shop Supervisor and work with an experienced team. The hours of work are 5:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Thursday with overtime requirements.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this is your chance to shape your production leadership experience through leading and coaching our Leading Hands and Production Operators. You will be driving improvements and managing a variety of operational challenges, and ensuring efficiency is maximised and targets are met.
Your objective will be to understand the business drivers to ensure maximum production is safely achieved whilst upholding quality. You’ll quickly appreciate how to manage resources to achieve results. With a diverse range of key accountabilities you’ll be well equipped to initiate and influence continuous improvements across operational performance.
Above all else you’ll promote a positive Health and Safety culture and collaborate with other teams to achieve company goals. Your communication skills and ability to have courageous conversations at all levels will be the key to your success!
With sound knowledge of MS Word and Excel and ideally SAP, you’ll be someone who enjoys analysing data and measuring your team’s performance with a view on generating future profitable production plans. Sawmill Manager Company/Location: Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology - Rotorua - Bay of Plenty
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of New Zealand’s newest, and the Bay of Plenty’s largest, tertiary education provider.
Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology is one of New Zealand’s largest Institutes of Technology serving the Bay of Plenty and South Waikato regions with major campuses in Rotorua, Tauranga, Whakatane, Taupo and Tokoroa, and learning centres spread across the region.
The Sawmill Manager is a member of the Forest Management and Wood Processing Team and is responsible for the overall management and coordination of the production of timber products on the Waipa Campus site, contributing to the overall direction, management and success of the Faculty’s programmes.
More specifically the Sawmill Manager will:
Lead a team of wood manufacturing operational staff to deliver timber products that enable delivery of education and training programmes to meet the needs of the region and the institution;
Support the Programme Manager to identify opportunities for new development that respond to identified needs;
Ensure commercial operations are resourced to deliver as specified and approved, and to meet quality standards;
Ensure all necessary sawmill and commercial operational information is completed and available to the Programme Manager, Faculty Operations Manager and teaching staff;
Ensure all institutional policies and procedures are followed;
Provide operational production leadership for their team;
Champion excellence in wood manufacturing processes supporting delivery of training and foster continuous improvement through evidence informed reflective practice;
Teach and/or research as agreed or required.
